Permaculture Design PDF Print E-mail

Permaculture is the integration of humans and ecology together to create sustainability within each other.  Permaculture is a term coined by Bill Mollison in the 1970's as a cultivation of "permanent agriculture" and "permanent culture."  The goal of permaculture is to create ecologically sound, economically prosperous human communities. This is ultimately achieved by taking a set of ethical principles, and combining them with ecological techniques, benefitting both nature and ourselves. Nibbler-during-no.2-(11)Dense plantings create a community of organisms that help each other survive the harsh desert climate.  The above picture shows a microclimate established on the south side of a home. The moisture-loss is minimized by creating shade, and the plants act as a living mulch to protect the soil from the wind and sun.  This protection of the soil makes more moisture available to soil organisms and plants, and, in turn, maintains a self-sustaining ecosystem.
